Severna Park sets cross country pace

The Severna Park High School girls cross country team, led by senior Liya Kasimova, took six of the top seven places in one of four county races at a 12-team meet at South River yesterday.
Kasimova won her race in a time of 20 minutes, 17 seconds. She was followed by teammates Jaci Gassaway (20:54) and Kelsy Hill (21:01). The Falcons scored 17 points and finished in front of South River (66) and Annapolis (67).

In the other girl's race, Arundel's Katie Barbour took top honors with a time of 23:04. A trio of Old Mill runners - Laine Converso (24:07), Cassey Trevino (24:08) and Sarah Foster (24:30) - were right behind Barbor and paced the Patriots to a first-place team finish with 38 points.

Ben Olsen finished one of the boys races in a time of 17:54 to lift the Bruins to a first-place team finish (39 points). He got support from teammates Connor Gilbert (19:20) and Avery Wentworth (19:24). Northeast took the second through fourth individual places and the Eagles (76) finished third as a team behind Arundel (58).

John Brungot (17:46), Andrew Stresing (18:14) and Nic Walsh (18:19) paved the way for South River (35) and its first-place finish in the other boys race. Severna Park's Andrew Finlayson was the overall winner in 17:22. The Falcons took second with 38 points.
